FDLT has been re-certified to provide Advanced Life Support to our community and our neighbors.  As of August 16, 2023, FDLT was able to provide this higher level of emergency medical care.
Assistant Chief McKamey explains, "An ALS ambulance is staffed with a paramedic that can provide treatment and interventions for many illnesses or injuries. Paramedics can start intravenous fluids, give medications for cardiac issues or pain management, use electrical therapy for unstable heart rhythms, and secure a person’s airway with a breathing tube. In many ways, the Paramedic can bring the services delivered in the first minutes of an Emergency Room to a person’s home."
This service is available right now, when a paramedic is on duty.  FDLT is currently hiring additional Firefighter/Paramedics.  The plan is to provide service 24/7 on October 1, 2023.
Thanks to Assistant Chief Alan McKamey, Liberty Township Trustee Brad Butler, Medical Director Robert Austgen MD, and EMS Coordinator Bobbie Paquin-Reese for making this happen.
NOTE: The ALS program was cut in 2019 due to lack of funding.
